Xenon Brenner wechsel - How to change a Xenon bulb

  • I will write in English as even though I lived in Berlin for the last 7 years my written German is still not up to scratch.
It all started with my Xenon bulb on the passenger side of my Pathfinder (2006) blowing at about 80 000 kms. I called the Nissan dealer (stealer) and they quoted me €320. I thought that to be excessive so I decided to take the light apart to see what bulb I need. I found that it was Philips D2R 35W model 85126. I ordered one from www.lichtex.de for €39,99. The direct link to the actual correct bulb is here.
You will have to follow the following steps:

    1. Remove the battery
    2. Remove the white cover by twisting anti-clockwise
    3. Remove the earthing cable that is running across the back of the bulb silver box electronics
    4. Unhook the two securing spring wires
    5. Wiggle out the bulb / electronics assembly
    6. Remove bulb by twisting anti-clockwise and then pull out
    7. Install the new bulb and repeat the above steps in reverse. When installing the new bulb make sure that the notch in its socket lines up at the top as this has to match the corresponding protrusion on the light body.

Good luck and whatever you do do not pay €320 to the stealers.
